Fitting in your regular training regime gets tough over summer. Celebrations and holidays always take priority, and despite your best efforts to hit the gym it can sometimes become impossible.
Whether you’re on holiday or simply don’t have the time to pop into your centre, staying on track is still achievable – and a lot easier than you may expect!
Below are our five ways you can fit in your training during the upcoming holiday season!
Make the most of your member benefits
Did you know that all YMCA members receive a 10 pass card which you can use at any YMCA Victoria managed facility? That’s right! YMCA Victoria manages recreation centres from Wodonga to Phillip Island, and throughout metropolitan Melbourne, and you can use your card wherever you may be.

Change up your routine
Adjusting your schedule isn’t easy, but sometimes it has to be done. During the holidays, early mornings in the health club are much quieter. Plus starting the day with a quick session is the perfect way to wake up and make your day more productive.
Ten minute workouts
High intensity training is proven to be one of the most effective ways to keep fit. We can all find 10 minutes in our day to get in a quick session at home or outside. AMRAPS (as many rounds and reps as possible) are a great workout style which ensures your session is quick and gets the job done. Here are some ideas:
In ten minutes, complete as many rounds and reps as possible of:
- 15 squats, 15 push ups, 15 sit ups
- 20 alternating lunges (10 per leg), 5 burpees
- 20 jumping squats, 200m run

On the beach
Not only is the beach the best place to relax and enjoy the sun, it’s also the perfect workout environment. Try going for an ocean swim or a run on the soft sand. These present different challenges to the pool and treadmill – and will make you work different muscles.
Multitasking with fitness
Whether you’re cooking for the family, waiting for friends to go out, or taking the kids to the park, there are plenty of spare moments to fit in some fitness! Planks, sit-ups, push-ups, and squats are easy body movements you can do anywhere. You can also use these spare moments as stretching and mobility time – an important part of any training regime.
